Coat of arms of Kiev - on first known a scientist coat of arms, XV ages, a bow was represented with two arrows. In 1782 a city was got by the new coat of arms with the image of archangel Michael. Archangel - in a short tunic, with a nimbus round a head, with throw in right and by a shield in a left arm. In 1919 this coat of arms was anniented a bolshevist government. And only in 50 years, the new coat of arms of city appeared in 1969. His image the shield of slavonic form was underlaid. From above is a sickle and hammer, down is a medal "Gold Star" of Hero of Soviet Union (Escorts Kiev has status of city-hero). On the red-blue field of shield, which reflected the colors of of that time flag of Ukraine, inscription of "Kiev" went from above.
