I’m a librarian. “Books” are my trade. My passion. I love the written word. So, I read all over the spectrum. But, since I’m a middle school librarian, my post today is going to be about MG and/or YA books/authors that I’ve read.
I think the first author that I read and loved was Judy Blume. No girl should go through life and not read her.
Lois Lowry. I read this particular book in grad school. She’s an awesome writer as well.
After I got into Harry Potter, this was the next fantasy series that I starting reading and loved it. Eoin Colfer created a ”kid” genius criminal mastermind. But, you still love him in the end.
Christopher Paul Curtis. He’s received at least 2 I know, Newberry Award honors and the Coretta Scott King award.
Kate DiCamillo. Two of her books have been made into movies. She’s received the Newberry Award. And she’s been a National Book Award finalist. I read two of her books this summer with my daughters and they both loved them.
Cornelia Funke. Three of her books are being made into movies. The first comes out next spring.
Walter Dean Myers. Another author whose received the Newberry honor and National Book Award honor.
Barbara Park. Her Junie B. Jones series is one of the most funniest series I’ve ever read. Actually had me laughing out loud. There are over 20 books in the series.
J.K. Rowling. Harry Potter…..Nuff said.
OK…I’m going to stop here. There are many others….K.A. Applegate’s Animorph series…Avi…Holly Black…Meg Cabot…Matt Christopher…Beverly Cleary…Tony DiTerlizzi…Sharon Draper…Sharon Flake…Nikki Grimes…Kevin Henkes…Anthony Horowitz (great boy-like James Bond series..awesome!)…Angela Johnson…C.S. Lews (Narnia)…Laura Numeroff…Rick Riordan (Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is awesome!!!)…Louis Sachar (Holes)…Shel Silverstein…Lemony Snickett…Jerry Spinelli…Chris Van Allsburg…Jacquelin Woodson.
