Guest blogging with me today: My 11 year old son, the Bookworm.
My reading list this summer is eclectic as always, and includes some of my staple authors, as well as some who are new to me.It also includes a ridiculous amount of YA books as I try to understand the workings of my oldest boy’s mind.
His list of recent-reads is my ‘to read’ list:
The entire Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer.
The entire Temeraire Series by Naomi Novik. (I bought the first book for ME. He scammed it, and I haven’t been allowed near the rest of the books yet. The covers are ALL Amazing, btw.))
The Bartimeus Trilogy by Jonathon Stroud
The Seventh Tower series by Garth Nix (I need to add I have “Sabriel” By Garth Nix on my
Fictionwise Wish List for myself)
Key to the Kingdom series by Garth Nix (I can’t possibly read this many books by one author in two months. I’ll be tired of him!)
Dragonlance books by Margaret Weis (These are MY books. Kid is just greedy! I also have a Weis book on my Fictionwise List.)
Two Minute Mysteries (ha! I read these when I was his age)
The Blue Girl by Charles deLint. (this is also MY book. I read it first, at least.)
Enders Game by Orson Scott Card. (I have three others by him, but found the first one I read, years ago, sort of odd, and wasn’t going to try again. I will now, I guess, as Kiddo is raving about this book.)
The Septimus Heap Series (Magyk, Flyte…and two others) by Angie Sage.
He wants to read:
Godslayer (Jacqueline Carey. I haven’t read it, but my gut says it might be too Adult for him. Anyone who has read it, lemme know if it’s a kissing book?)
Quest (Septimus Heap)
The Time Paradox (Artemis Fowl)
Victory of Eagles (Naomi Novik)
(See a theme here, yet? If he enjoys a series, give him more books in it. Please, authors, for the love of all that’s holy, write faster, because the kid devours your books in a day. *ahem* rant over.)
The Vampirates Series. (which I’ve seen and thought was a silly title, but never imagined he’d want to read!)
The Starship Titanic. (co-authored by one of Monty Python’s members, how could I say ‘no’?
)
I will have to continue my own list in a bit…my baby is awake.

I’m waiting to get the third Novik book from the library. I’m enjoying them a lot, even if there’s not much romance in them.

Wow that’s a lot of books. Your son will absolutely love the Artemis Fowl series. I have the Septimus Heap series in my library but haven’t read it yet.
