So there are days when you just do not want to get out of bed. No way, no how…oh God, just kill me. Today is one of those days for me. On top of taking a tumble down some stairs last Friday, I have a raging-bull type headache.

In honor of that, one picture really does say it all.

Procrastination: every writer’s bane (or hidden passion ;) ). I don’t know a single writer who doesn’t have issues with it, but I got thinking… everyone likes to do different things. I know some people knit or do other types of crafts, others browse the net, still others watch TV. Myself, I have a love for web forums, blogs and LiveJournals, and *cough* World of Warcraft.

How do you like your procrastination?

I’m over at EC chatting with some friends and holding contests from 12-5 Central time today http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ellorascavechat/. Come say hi!
While you’re waiting-Lyric has a new book out today with Samhain that everyone should definitely check out! Congratulations Lyric!!

I hope y’all’s is better than mine. It’s cold and I’ve got the crud my kids so thoughtfully brought home from school. So I’m calling in sick and spending Valentine’s Day in bed. Please tell me someone has better plans lol!?

Who Wants to Date a Superhero? Comes out on Friday…yes this Friday!!! And I have a book to give away. That’s right folks! Its not 19.99–its not 9.99! Its Absolutely free!!

Okay-its not completely free. Here’s what I want. I want you to create a superhero. Has to be totally original. Think about the powers you want to have, what your name would be, maybe even your costume. Your superhero can be pervy, weird, gross-whatever. Just post it right here on this blog or on mine at http://rgalexander.blogspot.com/ and the winner will get a free copy! And I forgot fame and glory. The winner will also get eternal fame and glory. :)
Come on! It’ll be fuuuuuun.

All I can say is duuuuuuude, OUCH! That’s gonna leave a mark.

I know I’m not the only one out there to use music as a tool for writing. A lot of y’all use playlists to help set the scene or cover up annoying distractions (like I’m doing right now with three cats in heat—oyyyy!) but have you ever found a song that fit some aspect of your story or characters perfectly?

A couple months back, I was working on a story very difficult to write, as the heroine is an incest victim and much of the story is her coming to terms (in a way) with what happened. The hero is the first person who’s ever shown her what love really is. Since I was having trouble, I set up a playlist, but I had a few “new to me” songs in the mix because I liked the artist. Well, as I was writing the most emotional part of the story, a certain song came on. I threw it on repeat because it felt “right,” but I didn’t look up the lyrics until later:

The last girl in the last reason to make this last for as long as I could
First kiss and the first time that I felt connected to anything
The weight of water, the way you taught me to look past everything I had ever learned
The final word in the final sentence you ever uttered to me was love

And I don’t know where to look
My words just break and melt
Please just save me from this darkness
Please just save me from this darkness

—Make This Go On Forever by Snow Patrol

Um. Yeah. My jaw dropped, because it fits the way she feels so utterly perfectly it’s surreal.

Any of you ever experienced anything like this?

To celebrate my upcoming release…ten more days to go…I thought we would talk about superheroes. Who Wants to Date a Superhero? has a group of superstuds called Gaia’s Guardians who protect Gaia City and the surrounding area from Big Business, the whims of Mother Nature, and the bad guys who have also formed their own secret handshake club-The Syndicate of Villainy.

Now every superhero needs a theme song. The better the theme song-the more memorable the hero. here is one of the best.

Here is one of the catchiest hero theme songs

And here-well-its Jack Black…I love this song.

I haven’t eaten today, so I’m starving! So, you’ll have to forgive my current obsession with food.

And food that isn’t quite real…but I’m hungry enough to give it a go.

A kiwi with a citrus twist.

Or maybe a Cocokiwi?

Um. No.

Pineapple watermelon. Sounds like a cocktail I’d drink for sure.

Teeheehee…..I’ve been here since late Wednesday night at a school conference. Thought I’d share my “star” - non-groupie acting - sitings. First we have….

Frankie Muniz.

Frankie Muniz came into the restaurant we were eating at late Wednesday night after we got there. He was with some girl with pink hair. Go figure. Kids!?

Next…

Bob Barker.

Bob Barker out early Thursday morning walking his dog. Very cool. :-)
Then…

Matthew McConaughey.

Matthew McConaughey. OK…almost could have had a serious groupie meltdown but I controlled myself. He was just calmly walking down Hollywood Blvd.

Finally….

Akon.

Akon. He was getting into his black Escalade leaving the hotel/conference center where the conference was. Again…resisted going into groupie mode. Congratulate me please.

All in all…I’ve had a fabulous time. We (my co-workers and I) presented at the conference and kicked ass and we’re still having fun. I leave tomorrow. :-( Here’s one last photo to leave you with. I took this with my cell phone, but it’s still an awesome pic.

Hope you had a great weekend!
