Mean Girls

Y’know, I’ve noticed the Blogosphere has this weird thing goin’ on. The more opinionated someone is, the more traffic they get. Ok, this isn’t news to anyone, but still…do you ever WONDER about it?

I haven’t blogged at all in a while. Why? Because I’ve been in a complete and total bitch, and didn’t feel the need to share the wealth. You don’t need to hear about how my kids are being crazy, my Dawg is a pain in my ass, and my writing is…floundering. You don’t need to hear my opinions on Cassie Edwards. You don’t need me to trash a recent: book I read/movie I saw/celebrity behaving badly.

And yet…

That seems to be what people flock to. So why can’t I provide? Why can’t I just write…controversial topics, and then let the fur fly?

Frankly…I think it’s because it requires more energy than I’ve got. Defending myself, justifying myself, and standing my ground even when someone else has a point…gah, I’m exhausted just thinking about it.

And maybe…it’s because…I want to be liked. These ‘Mean Girl” bloggers don’t seem to give a flying rat’s butt if they’re liked or not. I respect that…but I don’t think I could do it.

So. How ’bout you? Would you rather have Opinions, or be lurved? ;)

I don’t know, really. The biggest day on my blog was a Christmas Eve post about my insane family. That seemed to touch a nerve.
Plus, Divas was down with technical difficulties and people were desperate. LOL.

Do the two have to be mutually exclusive? Have an opinion or be kind?
I know what you mean-and its hard not to slow down for the train wreck that some of these opinions create-but I think I could live without all the vitriol.

Unfortunately RG, the consensus seems to be that “Snark” rules. I do miss a blog that used to be active called “Snarkling Clean” which was a couple of women who DID give opinions without being foul mouthed or angry about it.
    It was the exception.
Personally, I prefer the discussion that occurs on Dear Author rather than Karen Scott’s blog for that very reason.
    Opinion yes. Mean? Preferably not.
As one whose publisher was given a snarky name for “fun” I prefer the opinionated, not the mean, comments.

You know…I never frequented those blogs anyway. The only time I did was when I heard about something controversial and I was just plain ol’ nosy. I can admit that. But after that, I never went back to the blog again. To me, it just takes too much energy to that “snarky” all the time. I couldn’t do it. I like nice people, nice bloggers, I don’t care to “read” about someone being a beeatch all the time.

I dunno, RG, I think the idea is that I’d have to be able to defend my position. And to do that, properly, sometimes…you veer off of being nice.

I’m much better at being oatmeal. Filling and kind of sugary without any tanginess or bite-back.
