So, I’m sitting here trying to write this post and I’m drawing a huge blank. It’s Monday morning (blech!) and I have no idea what to say. I have to teach a class this morning, which is good, but I wish it was at a time when I was more alert. The days are getting shorter and I seem to always be tired because it’s always dark. The good news is I’ll be leaving for home on Friday to visit for Thanksgiving. Hopefully the weather is nice for the drive. Wish me luck on that one. I have the worst travel luck. Here are some highlights:
1. Last year, I ran over a jackrabbit and popped a tire on the freeway driving home to California for Thanksgiving. I got stranded on the highway for five hours before the tow truck found me exactly where I said I was. In a prison area staring at a sign that said not to pick up hitchhikers.
2. The year before that I was flying home to California for Christmas and got stranded in the Houston airport for 24-hours, but they kept my luggage hostage and refused to reimburse my room because we’d been delayed for bad weather. Um, clear skies people. We were delayed because something was wrong with the plane and the flight attendant assured us we’d have our rooms comped since it was well after 11PM by then. Never flying that airline again is all I can say.
3. Two years before that, I was driving with my two best friends to celebrate our college graduation in Las Vegas. We hit something and slid off the road and into a ditch in the middle of the Mojave Desert. A very helpful man stopped to kindly back us further into the ditch and then decide we were hopeless and drive off without us. Two hours and dehydrated hallucinations later, the tow truck showed up. Oh, and the highway patrol didn’t even get out of their car to see if we were okay, they just yelled at us to get up on the embankment through their loud speaker and drove off.
I love travel, can you tell? Wish me luck this week that all goes well on my way home!

Your problem is driving in the desert. You and lotsa sand just do not mix.

You know, I don’t think it’s the sand. Me and all those sandy beaches in California never had a problem.

You poor thing. I have terrible travel luck too…airlines seem to go out of their way to make my trip so miserable I swear to never fly again…until the next time I have to go home.
Here’s hopign you have a good trip!
