Back From Conference

I have to warn you all in advance that my brain is mush. I was told that there would be a post conference recovery time but I didnt think I would be such a zombie, or that I would already miss everyone so much. A few things I observed and or learned from the conference experience:

1. Its good to know people. Seriously, I think I would have turned and walked right back out the door in minutes if I hadn’t already had so many friends to hang out with. The amount of women/authors/agents etc milling around is enough to intimidate the stoutest heart.

2. I will never again go to a conference and not stay in the hotel. It seemed everytime I went to my friends house to sleep or eat dinner-something amazing happened {usually to Crystal-WOOHOOOO!}.

3. I will bring a digital camera. Someone was always doing something funny, someone was always looking amazing, and I ran out of film my second day in.

4. I will have in my purse a list of written comebacks {since I’m not as fast on my feet as some of my witty friends}for those few misguided souls who do not believe that selling to Ellora’s Cave is worthy of a first sale ribbon. grrrr.

5. Loribelle and Crystal are hysterical. I had a blast finally getting to meet everyone face to face.

6. Gay/Tranny bars have the best karaoke nights. The best singers, the cheapest drinks, most fun-bar none. I had a blast!

It really was great getting to see everyone. There were a lot of political things going on this year, but in the end I dont think its going to turn out to be detrimental. But I wont remember the tension-only the important things.
Getting to see everyone’s faces. Getting to meet the incomparable Robin Rotham, to catch glimpses of Nora Roberts, to suddenly realize I was shooting the breeze with Victoria Alexander and Stephanie Laurens.
I got to witness Jax and her photographic genius as her resident “bitch” for the week {I held the sun thingy-its a technical term}. Getting to watch TNG’s good friend Eden Bradley as she sold out to a line of eager fans. And being dazzled time and again by the grace and humor and beauty of all these wonderful women I’ve met online. All these authors I am proud to call friend.
Okay…back to my couch. If I didnt have edits I think I’d stay there for a week. :)

One of the highlights of MY conference was watching R.G. sing like she owned the stage…wow girl. You gotta great set of pipes!

    Missing everyone already. Sniff.

Crystal-thank you. But I want to be a leather clad whip wearing bad ass-its my dream. LOL

Mel-Awww, thanks. But I think Sela topped me with “Don’t Cry For me Argentina”. And Feisty owned that stage for “I Touch Myself” That rocked. I’m still bummed I missed your Pat Benatar :(

Aww, it was so great to meet you in person RG! Altho, I’m not so sure about that hysterical thing lol.

The let down sucks. I’m trying to figure out how I can make San Fran next year when I’ve been saying for months it would be impossible.

    Miss y’all. :(

Erika and Lyric-YES San Fran!! I have no clue how we’ll do it but we will darn it. You can bet the hotel food will be better lol
Samantha-it was good to see what goes on there-although I admit I had more fun foolin around with friends then during the conference this year.
Lori-MISS YOU TOO! Are you feeling better? And you have to come to San Fran!

You rocked the house, RG!! And I still can’t believe they let those people who dissed your EC pub out of the house without a keeper. Honestly, that kind of stupidity is dangerous.

I finally felt human again late yesterday afternoon. Conference isn’t just 4 days, it takes about 2 weeks, all told, with the prep beforehand and the recovery afterward!

By the way, congrats on the SECOND one. I know. I shouldn’t know about it. But I’m so happy for you, I couldn’t resist.
