Official word came down yesterday: I’ll be your hostess with the mostest while the rest of The Girls are doing their Thang at conference. Mayhem will be the rule of the day. mark your calendars, folks. I’ve got plans ![]()
On to today’s post:
I can’t do haikus, but I can write “pomes” (misspelt intentionally…these don’t count as ‘poems’!) about those things I’m most enamored with. In this case, the jet fuel of most writers: Coffee. (Some of us also drink tea, and some of us prefer it. Maybe next week I’ll do an ode to Tea.)
My favorite mug with the chip in the handle,
The glaze worn through on one side.
A cupboard full of others that can’t hold a candle
To the one in my still-shaking hands.
Steam curls upward from the cream and sugar treasure
comforting as a velvet-covered bed.
The first sip is heaven, unadulterated pleasure
Clearing the sleep-induced cobwebs from my head.
Prepared now for the tongue-burning temperature
The second ’sip’ is more of a gulp
My body tingles with some low-level amperature
A system-wide shock called ‘awake’.
Alert and prepared for anything,
My hands have stopped their shaking,
Hold me back, I’m prepared for the day.
Sitting at the desktop, the cursor sits there blinking
Taunting me to find something to say.
It has no way of knowing my third cup I am drinking
So fashioning sentences is quite easy.
Halfway through the cup I start getting dismal
the coffee is lukewarm
My rhyme and meter turns abysmal,
I chug the last few gulps down.
Hands no longer shaking
my brain is now awaking
I’ll be a genius by the time I’m done the pot.
Ok, so maybe Hallmark missed out on something when I decided to write fantasy.

LMAO!!!! Ah coffee. The elixir of this writer. According to WW, I can’t write Haikus sooooo
There once was a poor lonely writer
Who woke to a cursor to fight her
She gulped down some brew
The brilliance ensued
But the cursor kept blinking to spite her.
LOL.

Hostess with the mostest?? Omg, what have we done!?
Very cute. Now can we have an ode to sweet tea?

Hey, you gave me power. You can’t take it back there. I have fairy tales to back me up on this one. Once given, neither power, curses or wishes, can be taken back. You’re now, officially, screwed
Might as well smile and take it
And as for Sweet Tea…I could maybe write a lament…

I’ll be waiting for your Ode to Tea next week. That was too funny.
