I lucked out and got Valentine’s Day, which makes my post easy for the week.
I know a lot of people, including fellow Novelty Girls, have expressed their dislike for the Day. Many more people share their sentiments. I understand that. It does seem sort of silly to have one day out of the year where people are supposed to express their love for one another, as if they don’t do the same on the other 364.
It’s my anniversary. That puts a whole different spin on the date and makes me less woeful about the memory of comparing how many cards I got with my classmates, especially when I came up short. But I think that maybe, just maybe, as we’re all writers of romance, that we can take the day and give it different meaning. It doesn’t have to be a day just to celebrate our personal relationships.
Let’s call it Romance Day instead and celebrate our stories and our characters and the fact that we’re writing and reading the sort of books we love.
Just a thought.
However you choose to celebrate (or protest!) the day, I hope it’s a good one.

I was in Starbucks this morning, thinking how overrated V day was. And then I saw the underside of this day. Not the flowers, gifts, and expectations.
I saw a guy, probably mid 20’s, sending a text page, all flushed and smiling…looking 100% in love. It’s that kind of love that bring the hope and romance into the day.

Shelli: You made me grin like a sap. Yeah, that’s it exactly.

Happy anniversary Sara!!
Valentine’s is usually not a big deal for us. My Dad always sends the kids something and since he wasn’t able to this year, I got them something today. Army Guy actually brought me a dozen roses. A pleasant surprise. Katie’s “boyfriend” gave her a ring lol! One of those little things you get out of a gumball machine ya know? I thought it was sweet; it freaked Army Guy out. Lol
Anyway, in my mind the day’s always seemed more about spreading the love. My Dad always sends us a card, we get the kids something, etc. It’s like a two day junk-fest around here too. Tomorrow we get to do birthday cake lol!

Valentine’s day passed. The kids got oodles of paper cards to recycle from school, and candy I likely won’t let them eat.
I’m disilusioned
My anniversary is on saturday. I’m hoping for Valentine’s Day chocolates bought for half price
