Let’s talk about writer’s butt

By Loribelle Hunt | November 30, 2006

Oh you know you want to, and hey! I see you over there trying to slink off. Don’t think you’re getting out of this conversation! Get back here!

So where was I?

Oh yeah, writer’s butt. You know, that inevitable spread that happens when you sit in front of a computer all day and snack on Honey BBQ Fritos instead of say celery sticks. Oh, wait. That’s my story. Whatever your poison is, the end result–extra padding on the rear–is the same.

I used to be such a fitness fanatic. Not health so much, cause hey, a girl cannot live without good food. Figuring out protien vs. carb vs. fat intake is so not for me. And I hate chicken. But working out? Running? That I can do. Strong is so sexy after all.

So I’ve been trying to get organized this week, to get a regular schedule of some kind that I can actually stick to in place, and I slotted working out right there first thing in the morning. Except for an unfornutate endometriosis-sucks-where’s-my-pain-pills episode this morning, this is going well. I’m afraid it’s going too well, but I am determined.

There’s a few reasons for this new determination. Being the obsessed list maker I am, I made one of the reasons I have to start losing weight/working out again.

I hate being out shape and I hate the way I feel.

I refuse to buy anymore new clothes. I have perfectly good clothes I need to get my ass back in.

I kinda feel like a hypocrite. My heroines are kick ass, in shape women. Something I can no longer claim.

So I’m getting a jump start on the upcoming Christmas madness binge (not to mention that moment in May when I’ll open my closet and say, holy crap I have nothing to wear in Dallas!) My goal is to work out five days a week and lose 15 pounds by the 25th. I even started a spreadsheet to keep up with my workouts. Noooo, I’m not even a little OCD lol.

So who’s with me? Anyone? Beuler??

Umm…before the holidays is SUCH a bad time. I’m not sure I can get on board the health train yet. I’ll…try and be more aware of what’s going into my mouth though.

I’m with your Lori. I’ve made plans to begin working on starting tomorrow - also five days a week. However, I need to lose a whole lot more than 15 pounds…a lot more. LOL

I’m with you Lori. I’ve managed to lose some weight, but I gained a bunch when I started doing the computer nerd thing.
Hang in there and good luck.

I’m with you…nutritionists orders. I can’t stand walking in there and lying to her so I won’t.

PS Shelli…check your produce section for already cut up celery and stuff and get a jar of real nut butter. It makes a nice quick snack and adds some veggies to your diet. I also keep V-8 with lemon around and stuff for fruit smoothies (healthier than ice cream *sigh*)

I had a YMCA membership for several years but rarely used it. (It’s 30 miles away, for crying out loud!) But I’ve been the same size (the same large size) for twenty-odd years and I don’t see it suddenly changing, no matter what I do, so I’ll just keep walking at the track sporadically and hope for the best. :D

You can do it Lori! I was looking in my closet last week and pulled out so many things that no longer fit my fat ass. I have to do better! Why is it the clothes you love the best are the ones that never fit?

heh. Mia, that’s because you can’t see how awful they actually look, or how uncomfortable they really are ;) Once I can fit into my cute clothes, I’m sure I’ll wonder why I wanted to…

‘course, then I’ll just buy more

Hey you can keep an online food diary at Fitday.com for free, Shell. I hate writing it down but I have to

Shelli, I need to lose 25-30, but I figure 15 is a good start. And if I don’t do it now after Christmas it will be more like 40-45 lol. I second fitday.com. It’s a great site.

Aurelia, that sounds awesome! I would do that but the only gym equipment I’d like that I don’t have is a rowing machine lol. I have waaaay too much exercise equipment for the little use it was getting.

Karen, does your gym have a daycare center? That’s why I started buying my own stuff cause I couldn’t work out the daycare.

Lyric, me too lol. But I figure 15 is a good start!

Jen, I think the computer nerd thing is what’s really killing me. If I could just figure out a way to surf the net while I was on the treadmill lol…

Amie, that’s good snack advice. I also am trying to keep nuts and pretzels around. And ditto on fitday.com

Dayna, I need to lose about 25 too. Right now, I’ll be happy with 15 though. The rest for Dallas, definitely. I absolutely refuse to buy all new clothes lol!

Mia, I don’t know lol. But my most favorite jeans ever won’t go over my fat butt anymore and I can’t face a whole winter without them lol! So. The weight has to go. *g*

I did pretty good this week. I cheated today, but Army Guy is home and we always get lunch just us one day a week if we can. Next time I’ll do better on the out to lunch thing. :P
